How Many Days Are Between Two Dates?

The answer depends on the counting rule. The standard date difference counts the days that have elapsed after the start date. An inclusive count includes both the start and end dates. This calculator shows the result as total calendar days, business days, weekend days, weeks, months, and years.

How to calculate the date difference

  1. Select the start date and end date.
  2. Decide whether the end date should be included.
  3. Choose calendar days, business days only, or weekend days only.
  4. For a business-day result, add any holidays that should be excluded in YYYY-MM-DD format.
  5. Click Calculate Difference and review the totals.

Choose the right counting rule

  • Elapsed days: the ordinary difference between the two dates.
  • Inclusive days: count both boundary dates by including the end day.
  • Business days: count Monday through Friday, less any holidays you enter.
  • Weekend days: count Saturdays and Sundays only.

A second example

Friday to Monday is three elapsed calendar days. The business-day result can differ because weekends are excluded and because including the end day changes which boundary dates are counted.

Understanding the result

“Total days” is the clearest figure for deadlines and schedules. The years, months, and days breakdown is a calendar-style description of the same interval, so it may not convert back using a fixed 30-day month. For legal, tax, immigration, or contractual deadlines, check the official rule because organizations may define the first day, last day, weekends, and holidays differently.
